Vikings

Meh2/4 · Mediocre. Watchable if it is already on, but I would not go looking for it.
Although it has great moments, I can't, in good faith, recommend this. It's a viking saga drama set in the viking era, which I like. But the propaganda is too strong, with women 'shieldmaidens' defeating men in combat and every character acting like it's the 21st century and women have the equal rights and opportunities as men. There are huge Deus ex machina moments where an army looks like it's about to lose then suddenly hundreds of mens pop out of nowhere. After a village is captured and all the men die fighting, they have armies after only a month or two, which is nonsense. There are many scenes where the characters have a conversation that serves no purpose, or entire plotlines where an ethnically-diverse character pops up for a couple of episodes then disappears without affecting the universe and you ask yourself 'What did they mean by this?' Yes, there are good drama moments such as the fall of Ragnar Lothbrok, but honestly, there's so much filler and propaganda and unexplainable crap that it's just not worth watching this.

What it's about

The adventures of Ragnar Lothbrok, the greatest hero of his age. The series tells the sagas of Ragnar's band of Viking brothers and his family, as he rises to become King of the Viking tribes. As well as being a fearless warrior, Ragnar embodies the Norse traditions of devotion to the gods. Legend has it that he was a direct descendant of Odin, the god of war and warriors.
