Meh2/4 · Mediocre. Watchable if it is already on, but I would not go looking for it.
I have mixed feelings about this show. It has great seasons and interesting, funny stories, but it also has a lot of filler. There's two main issues here: the main plot is a bunch of boring conspiracy theories, and the show was a zombie for two seasons (8 and 9). I simply skipped the 'main-plot' episodes, except a few accidents where I took too late to realize it was a conspiracy episode. Conspiracies in the government about aliens are just too far-fetched. In my mind bureacrats are... well, bureacrats. I don't think they go around building super soldiers, replicants, and hiding 'the truth' from the American people. Conspiracies are not viable at the scale this show suggests, with hundreds of people in several facilities and levels of the government. It just sounds like wishy-washy children tales to try and take these alien stories too seriously. The last two seasons, agent Mulder (David Duchovny) disappears, and he is replaced with other two agents who are much less interesting/funny. Duchovny carried the show before, with his carefree attitude. Then, during the last two seasons, the other two agents try to be dark and grim about something that is a parody of itself.

What it's about
The exploits of FBI Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully who investigate X-Files: marginalized, unsolved cases involving paranormal phenomena. Mulder believes in the existence of aliens and the paranormal while Scully, a skeptic, is assigned to make scientific analyses of Mulder's discoveries that debunk Mulder's work and thus return him to mainstream cases.
