State of siege

Original title: État de siège

Recommended3/4 · Good. I would recommend it, with the caveats in the review.
A political drama about a terrorist group that kidnaps an american official from a CIA front. The first scene shows you how he's found dead, and the rest of the movie is how you get there. Unlike other movies, he *is* dead, he doesn't revive. The movie explores three things: who he was and why he was kidnapped; the political situation in Uruguay in the 70s with the death squads; and the training of police officers by american specialists that end up torturing enemies of the state.

What it's about

His position makes him a target for a local band of guerrillas, and, before long, Santore is kidnapped. As a prisoner, he undergoes interrogation, shedding light on the violent situation in the country. Once the insurgents are done with their questioning, they must decide whether Santore lives or dies.
