Jack the Giant Slayer

Meh2/4 · Mediocre. Watchable if it is already on, but I would not go looking for it.
An adventure fairytale action movie based on the Jack and the Beanstalk fairytale. Here, however, Jack kills giants, saves the princess and becomes king. That's the whole plot. The rest is just the typical adventure scenes of people escaping impossible odds in unrealistic ways, propaganda in the form of the well-read princess who refuses to 'stay in the kitchen' and two generic villains. Every character is unrealistic, even though it's a fairytale. I still can't get over the fact that Jack, a piss-poor peasant, reads books and gifts a book to the princess.

What it's about

The story of an ancient war that is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom, its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend–and gets the chance to become a legend himself.
