Game of Thrones

Recommended3/4 · Good. I would recommend it, with the caveats in the review.
One of the great epic fantasy adventure dramas. The first season promised 'no plot armor', and for a while this holds true. There are consequences to actions and characters die. The focus is on the actual game of thrones, that is, how the lords formed and broke alliances to gain control and power. But as the show progresses, the dismal John Snow and Daenerys plots become more important, degenerating and corrupting the whole show to the point where John Snow gets something better than plot armor: resurrection. The sixth season is the last where there's any game of thrones. The seventh is bad, with all the focus shifted to stupid dragons and magic. And the eighth and final season almost looks like if the producers tried to make the worst possible ending for a once-great show. The good characters like Tyrion are given less and less screen time to give way to the stupid moral paragons Daenerys and John Snow. The intrigues of seasons 1-5 are top notch. The ending is the worst fumble of modern cinema. What could have been one of the best shows ever made ended up being a tarnished mediocrity because the script writers were too incompetent to write a proper ending.

What it's about

Seven noble families fight for control of the mythical land of Westeros. Friction between the houses leads to full-scale war. All while a very ancient evil awakens in the farthest north. Amidst the war, a neglected military order of misfits, the Night's Watch, is all that stands between the realms of men and icy horrors beyond.
