A Clockwork Orange
1971 · MovieMust-seeA dystopia dark comedy where brutal youth violence is commonplace. An interesting quirk is the film has its own slang and words such as 'ultra-violence'.
The Matrix
1999 · MovieMust-seeAn original sci-fi action movie about a world where people live inside a simulation built by machines to make electricity out of humans. It also has two amusing philosophical mindfucks which are well presented: determinism vs choice; the nature of reality; a slight, hard to see reference to the failure of communism. It's one of the few unique movies that after you've watched it, changes how you think about other movies. And how filmmakers make movies.
Dark City
1998 · MovieMust-seeA fantasy thriller about a city where sinister overlords reshape the citizens's lives every night. It's original, dark, grim and surprising. The aesthetics of the movie are pretty unique and look like they inspired The Matrix, which was filmed one year after this movie. It uses well the time it has to tell you a convoluted story that makes sense, so I recommend it if you are looking for some scifi or fantasy.
Lobster
2015 · MovieMust-seeThis is a weird one, and deserves credit for thinking outside the box. It's a dystopia with dark humor. It's rather long (2h) for what it is, but it's because each scene takes its time. Every character is broken, every situation awful. There is no hope for a brighter tomorrow, as in other dystopias, and the main character forms a part of it instead of rebelling.
Delicatessen
1991 · MovieRecommendedA dark, bizarre, French comedy drama about a hotel in a strange dystopia where the butcher serves people. Definitely recommend it.

1995 · MovieMehA strange, almost surrealist, French drama where a man searches for his kidnapped brother. The plot gets lost in the sauce, there's no clear direction or point to this. Frankly Jeunet's worst work, too pretentious.
