An original anti-hero story centered around a main character with a unique personality. Tension maintained throughout the movie, intelligent writing and a compelling plot make this a top film in my list.

A crime thriller about an interesting psychopath that hunts down a man with millions of dollars of a drug cartel. The plot is excellent, it doesn't try to save characters just because they are the 'good guys' and the conclusion is original. This is probably one of the best of the murder/thriller genre. Also, Javier Bardem has a lot of merit, playing his psychopath part very well.

A crime drama about an insurance salesman who tries to squeeze an old man. Things get worse as the main character slides down the slippery slope of lies. The plot and the point it makes are interesting, the conclusion is well executed and the tension is well managed. Overall a good experience.

A dark humor crime movie about two idiots who rob a mob card game. Realistic characters, average plot, slow pace. Entertaining, solid, not great.

A great crime thriller where a cop infiltrates an Irish gang and a gang member infiltrates the police, and each tries to take down the other. A different entry in the mob genre that doesn't follow the usual path.

A solid cop crime show. The cases run for one season each, but the overarching story is important. Each episode is filled with details, each case is interesting, each season manages the tension well. My only complaint is that during the first and most/all of the second seasons, it's filmed with the hand-held camera style, which is a terrible choice. Other than that, the rest is great. Believable and interesting characters that are not morally black or white. Watch this before any other crime show.

first few seasons

One of the best detective shows out there because it's a comedy and not serious. Instead of tryharding to be some complex plot where it ends up being 'the butler did it lol', the focus on this show is often on Monk's interactions with other people. If you *have to* watch a detective show, but you don't want another CSI/Bones/Law and Order, where it's 40 minutes of being very serious and finding the killer last minute, this is it, and it's way better than Castle for a detective comedy show.
