  1. Must-see

A Woody Allen comedy about a playwright in the 1920s trying to keep control over his latest play. This is easily one of the best Woody Allen movies, and possibly the best comedy with a plot. There are several layers of humor: it mocks pseudointellectuals; it explores the issue of the creative control struggle between the artist and the producer; and, at the same time, it has the meta argument of being a play about a play.

  2. American Psycho

    2000 · Movie
    Must-see

A dark comedy about a charismatic banker psychopath and his murder tendencies. Apart from all the memes it has spun, it's the most iconic anti-hero main character, the 'sigma male' who goes his own way and does not care one bit what anyone says. Charismatic, deranged, funny, absurd, the main character and the movie are unique.

  3. The Big Lebowski

    1998 · Movie
    Must-see

A comedy crime about a pseudo-hippie who gets involved in a kidnapping case by accident. This is a cult movie for a reason: the characters are charming, the situations are hilarious, the plot is absurd but entertaining, and the ending feels right. Walter Sobchak, the Vientam vet, is one of the best characters I've seen in a comedy and definitely carries most of the movie.

  4. Snatch

    2000 · Movie
    Recommended

A great comedy about stupid criminals that become tangled in violent situations for their greed and stupidity. There's dark humor, violence and the paths of the different characters crossing in weird ways.

  5. Must-see

A comedy about two old magicians in Las Vegas trying to recapture the wonder of magic. Both Steve Carell and Jim Carrey overact and exaggerate. It has politically incorrect humor and a lot of scenes that just stick with you. It's not consistently good, but it has great moments.

  6. Love and Death

    1975 · Movie
    Recommended

A Woody Allen intelligent, politically incorrect comedy about czarist Russia. The plot doesn't really matter or make sense but the humor is excellent.

  7. Hot Shots!

    1991 · Movie
    Recommended

A surreal parody of Top Gun, Full Metal Jacket and other movies. It's entertaining and better than Top Gun.

  8. Recommended

A comedy about a petty radio dj that helps the police when a recently fired coworker takes the radio station hostage. Nuggets of comedy gold.

  9. This is 40

    2012 · Movie
    Recommended

An irreverent comedy drama about a marriage that tries to change their lives after their 40th birthday. The humor is offensive and sometimes vulgar, but if you like it, you will laugh through most of the movie. The characters are realistic and flawed. Overall a good comedy.

  10. Night on Earth

    1991 · Movie
    Recommended

A collection of comedy microstories about cab drivers in different cities at night. The one that takes place in Rome is the best, but each has its own thing that makes it worthwile. It's a good comedy that you can even watch in episodes like a short tv show.

  11. Whatever works

    2009 · Movie
    Recommended

A Woody Allen comedy that partially parodies Pygmalion movies using Woody Allen's style.

  12. Captain Fantastic

    2016 · Movie
    Must-see

A comedy/drama road trip about a man who tries to raise his children as 'philosopher kings' away from society. Original comedy that deals with complex issues like kids needing to be raised in a society, even if that society is flawed and even toxic, as well as the problems with pure intellectualism.

  13. Palm Springs

    2020 · Movie
    Recommended

    A decent time loop comedy

  14. Life of Brian

    1979 · Movie
    Must-see

Monty Python's best movie, a surreal parody of Jesus Christ's life.

  15. Stretch

    2014 · Movie
    Recommended

A bizarre comedy about a limousine driver who drives around a rich madman to pay off his gambling debts. If it weren't for the weaker parts of this film, it would be a masterpiece. There's nuggets of comedy gold in here, but the start is pretty slow. It tries to be like Deadpool and it works out well, though it ends up having a lot of filler.

  16. Game Night

    2018 · Movie
    Recommended

An action comedy about a group of people who enter a dangerous real-life game involving kidnapping. Reminds heavily of 'The Game' with Michael Douglas. Amusing, deserves a watch.

  17. Tropic Thunder

    2008 · Movie

  18. Curb Your Enthusiasm

    2000 · TV show
    Must-see

One of the greatest comedy shows that is out there, possibly better than Seinfeld, and certainly some of the episodes are better. There are strong cringe comedy moments, so if you can't stand those, it may not be for you. Absolute great show where Larry David acts as himself acting as himself, saying all sorts of crazy but very real shit. I've had genuine laughter fits watching this, physically falling off the couch laughing my ass off. So go watch it.

  19. The Office

    2005 · TV show
    Must-see

A mockumentary about office workers with memorable characters. Mostly relies on cringe humor, so not for everyone. Also the shaky camera can get annoying.

  20. Seinfeld

    1989 · TV show
    Must-see

Hands-down the best sitcom of all time, with many memorable episodes and quotes. Selfish, eccentric, neurotic and often shallow, the main characters are more believable than in other popular sitcoms that rely more on cliches.

  21. The Simpsons

    1989 · TV show
    Must-see

    up to season 12

  22. Silicon Valley

    2014 · TV show
    Must-see

The best comedy tv show related to the startup world and specially IT. Memorable characters, surprisingly good plots for a comedy show, and plenty of laughs. The writers clearly know the world they are writing about.

  23. Recommended

The best English humor show, with many memorable sketches and quotes including the origin of the use of 'spam' in IT. Absurd, surreal humor. Many good sketches.
